Short Description: This ram shackled house was threatened with demolition in this vibrant Inman Park neighborhood until a courageous developer and restaurant entrepreneur stepped in and reimagined this restaurant as an elegant work of art and industrial design. The owner built many of the custom elements and has now created one of the most vibrant urban places in the historic neighborhood and the city by working closely with the architectural team.
Architect's Statement: This circa 1926 house located in Inman Park on one of the most active spokes of the Atlanta Beltline and in one of the most bustling neighborhoods in the city has served as a restaurant for over 50 years.
The restaurant owner is an entrepreneur and industrial designer who collaborated with the architectural team on the design of the restaurant, the sliding doors, custom furniture and a pop-up coffee shop/ shopping container. The structure has some shoddy additions, and the previous “Parks Edge” restaurant was featured (before it’s failure) on a 2010 episode of Gordon Ramsey’s Restaurant Remade/ Kitchen Nightmares show. The architects carefully planned the removal of the shoddy additions and recycled the wood at the bar and bar back wall. Inman Park is a very cohesive historic neighborhood and the team worked closely to introduce a new modern industrial aesthetic as many of the neighboring structures are warehouses. A large new steel framed porch is placed on the Beltline to activate Berning street, the Beltline path and the connection to the James Earl Carter Center. Key skyline views were created by new windows which frame the city skyline and introduce natural light deep into the dining space imbuing the restaurant with morning and afternoon light dappled through the white oak trees alone.
